About The Sessions
Django Workshop sessions run the gamut from beginner through more intermediate/advanced content.
Creating a Custom CMS with Django
Although nearly any kind of site can be built with Django, it was born in the publishing world -- and it shows. Django makes it incredibly easy to create a custom content management system (CMS) with minimal programming knowledge. This session will cover build a CMS from scratch, including the creation of data models, an administrative interface, views, and templates.
Topics covered:
- Django overview and history
- Projects and apps
- Models
- Database API
- Admin interface
- Views and generic views
- URL configuration
- Templates
Tricking Out Your Django CMS
One of Django's killer features is the massive library of built-in and third party "apps" that let you quickly add bits of functionality to your project without a whole lot of effort. In this session, we'll use several of these to "trick out" the CMS we built in Part 1.
Topics covered:
- Comments
- Feeds
- Flatpages
- Tagging
- Pagination
- Voting
- More as time allows
